(STMW) — Police are speaking with a “person of interest” in a baseball bat attack that left a Chicago Police officer seriously hurt Saturday in West Englewood.
The officer was struck in the head with a blunt object while responding to a battery in progress about 12:40 a.m. in the 5700 block of South Winchester Avenue, police said previously.
The officer was hurt while trying to break up a fight in the street, police said. One of several males involved in the fight hit the officer in the head with a baseball bat after the officer got out of his car.
Authorities are now speaking with “person of interest” in connection with the attack, a police source said. No charges have been filed as of late Monday.
